The Principal


Prof Schumann F Tang, PhD


Professor Schumann F Tang, founder of Hong Kong Film Academy, received his first degree in Graphic Design and Professional Photography at New York School of Fine Arts. After graduation he worked as a designer and fashion photographer with Leo Burnette, a 4A-advertising agency based in New York. A year after he was promoted Art Director he resigned from the agency and furthered his study in Film and Television Production at New York University. He joined CBS-TV for a year and then moved to NBC-TV in Los Angeles where he pursued his MFA in Film Production, MSS and PhD in Clinical Psychology at UCLA. Prof Tang had worked for a number of film companies in Hollywood such as Falcon Productions, CineVision Productions etc before he began his lecturing career as Associate Professor at CUNY and Professor at UCLA.
Prof Tang was former President of East-West Communications (USA), Director of International Alliance of Art Critics-Hong Kong Chapter, Panel Juror of Spanish International Film Students Festival, Chairman of Hong Kong Golden Bauhinia Film Awards, and Founder-Director of Hong Kong Film Critics Association. Presently, Prof Tang serves as Juror Member of the Hong Kong Film Awards, Expert Adviser to HK Cable-TV, Subject Specialist of Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation, Production Director (Asian Pacific) of MetroCine Productions, and Director of Hong Kong Psychological Research Center.

Lewis Teague (Hon. Advisor, Guest Professor)


Graduated at New York University Film Dept., Lewis and Martin Scorsese were both classmates and renowned Hollywood Director. Lewis Teague’s directorial work includes <Cujo>, <Navy Seals>, <The Jewel of the Nile>, <Wedlock>, <Cat’s Eye> etc. Now act as the UCLA Film Dept Professor and guest Professor at the Hong Kong Film Academy.

 

 

Henry Chung (Hon. Advisor, Guest Lecturer)


Graduated at the Hong Kong Poly University Design Dept, a renowned Hong Kong Film Award Cinematographer. Won 1993 Hong Kong IFVA Best short film, <Peony Pavillion> 2002 won French Deauville Film Festival and Hong Kong Film Award for Best Cinematography. Work with renowned directors and Cinematographers include Tsui Hark, Ann Hui, Peter Kuran, Chris Casady, Joe Pytka, Woody Omens ASC, Mark Irwin ASC, CSC, Willy Stassen, Amir Mokri etc. Henry Chung’s Cinematography’s work includes <Peony Pavillion>, <Bishonen>, <Slow Fade>, <A Small Miracle> etc.

 

 

Alan Lee – Lecturer


Graduated at Hong Kong Film Academy Diploma in Scriptwriting for Film/TV and Diploma in Basic Film Production. Work as a Scriptwriter and Director in TV station and scriptwriter for Jonnie To. Script work includes: <The Longest Night>, <Expect the Unexpected>, <True Love> etc. TV work includes: <1.1 billion people>, <Ms Fong Living Square>, <TV Shopping Channel>etc. Also, act as Guest Speaker in Hong Kong radio show.

 

 

Mathew Torne-Guest Lecturer


Graduated at University of Kent, UK (Hon. in Film Studies & History) and Hong Kong Film Academy Diploma in Basic Film Production, work in Twentieth Century Fox and Atlantic Productions as Scriptwriter and Assistant Director since 2001.

 

 

Tony Yu – Guest Lecturer


Graduated at the Hong Kong Film Academy Diploma in Basic Film Production, Diploma in Acting at ‘Siu Pang’ performing art institute, member of the Hong Kong Actors Association and Hong Kong Macau Film Drama Association, now act as Film & TV Commercial actor, Commercial work includes: <Hong Kong Standard> , <Tai Lam Electronics>, <Four Seas Travel>, <Lane Crawford>, <Cathay Pacific>, <Fook Fai Jewellery>, <Nescafe Soya Bean> and <Lux> etc. Film work includes: <The Four Great Families>, <The Four Great Detectives> etc. TV work includes: <Dangerous Man>, <ICAC> and <Spit Fire> (German TV Station) etc.

 

 

Peter Ng – Guest Lecturer


Graduated at the Hong Kong Film Academy Diploma in Basic Film Production, Graduation work <Mr Salmon> won 3rd Hong Kong IFVA Best Animation film and many prizes from European film festivals. <Dandelion> was selected on the 8th Golden Bauhinia Film Awards and silver prize in Hong Kong Independent Film Festival and many other award winning animation works, e.g. <Lucky Charm>, <exit> etc. Peter Ng is now a renowned computer graphics designer and Creative Director.

 

 

Yeung Kei -Guest Lecturer


Graduated at the Hong Kong Film Academy Diploma in Scriptwriting for Film/TV, a renowned senior scriptwriter in ATV, scriptwriting work includes <Chan Chen>, <Foggy Shanghai>, <Back to Shanghai>, <First Wife Social Club> etc. Now work as Producer and Senior Scriptwriter

 

 

Scott Chan - Guest Lecturer


Scott Chan is an American Chinese, graduated at the New York State University Drama Dept., Scott is a member of the Amercian Federation of Television and Radio Artists and Screen Actors Guild

 

 

AneMari - Guest Lecturer


Graduated at Hong Kong Film Academy Diploma in Professional Film Production AneMari is an experienced and well-travelled model. She has numerous exposure in MTV, Advertisment, Fashion Show, product spokesman and actress, playing as a scientist in Jackie Chan's movie <The Myth>.

 

 

Grace CHOI - Guest Lecturer


Grace CHOI is an experienced model, including various Fashion Show, TVC, Printed Advertising, Editorial Shooting and Fashion Catalogue. Grace is also a Catwalk and Etiquette Course Lecture in VTC, UCAN, World Trade Shopping Centre (Uniform design competition Show Production), Pivot Point Hair Styling School.

 

 

K K Pang – Guest Lecture


Graduated at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts Drama Dept, being selected as TVB <Teenager Ambassador>. 1989 won Best Stage Actor, 1991 won <Ten Most Best New Actor> prize from China Broadcast Company. 1993 won Best Supporting Actor.
